The Island Farm

Work in nature.
A new meaning.

Embrace the Tranquility of Farm Life,
find space for creativity & connection

Nestled in the rolling hills of the Isle of Wright, you can discover a perfect campus for productive retreats and inspiring offsites. This historic farm, transformed into a modern retreat space, invites teams and organizations to reconnect and rediscover their collaborative spirit in the midst of nature.

Experience a unique setting that combines a rich heritage with the tranquility of the countryside, ideal for creating meaningful experiences, shared purpose and energy. We're thrilled to open our farm lodges to companies, merging the serenity of nature with the demands of modern work life.

Whether you're looking to inspire your team, foster creativity, or simply offer some fun time together in nature without disconnecting from work, our farm provides the perfect backdrop. We can't wait to welcome you!

Our story

The Turney family has been involved in farming for over one hundred years, having taken over the care of the Farms in 1982. At its peak, the farm milked 800 cows and produced 24,000 litres of fresh wholesome milk every day of the year, without exceptions.

Currently managed by brothers-in-law Tom Turney and Tom Honeyman-Brown, it no longer functions as a dairy farm. Instead, it has transformed into the Isle of Wight's leading eco-tourism business, encompassing the award-winning Tom's Eco Lodge and farm accommodation.

Sustainability is central to the farm's operations, whether it involves drawing water from their borehole to supply the farm, harnessing solar energy to generate electricity for hundreds of homes, utilizing a biomass boiler for heating, or cultivating over 30 acres of new woodland and hedgerows. This commitment to sustainability is a core aspect of their ethos. The guiding principle is to ensure the farm is passed on in a better environmental and productive condition than it was at the start of their stewardship. With many tasks still ahead, we remain committed and ready to face the challenges.

Sustainability

Here are some of the ways in which the Turney family has taken decisive action on green environmental practices and social and ethical choices:

Recycling

  • Early adopter of compostable and biodegradable packaging to replace plastic products.

  • Recycle all farm plastics and scrapping old metals.

  • Repurposed former farm buildings to regenerate rather than build on greenfield land.

  • Upcycle products wherever possible to avoid unnecessary purchasing.

  • Recycle used wetsuits.

Power

  • Installed 500kw of renewable solar generation across four buildings and two small field arrays, meaning the farm is electric positive and sends excess green power back to the grid.

  • Removed oil boilers and replaced them with a district heating network powered by sustainably sourced renewable wood pellets.

  • Installed air source and ground source heat pumps in new properties and business premises.

  • Early adopter and promoter of LED low-energy lighting, since 2012.

  • Grow tons of energy crops annually to produce renewable gas.
